Toria and Infest

Posted by Erador on August 31st, 2006

Bradford town centre was taken over by the international market for most of last week. Rhi and Sam had invited me out to it, and I decided it was high time I saw my girlfriend, so I combined the two.

It was pretty fun, there was lots of stalls of cheese, it seemed to be a popular thing to sell. It was a bit weird that it wasn’t overly sort of segregated into countries like last year, and there were also a lot of English stalls, which I wasn’t complaining about, but it’s not very international.

I was expecting a lot more crafty stalls, there were some, selling handmade bead earrings and such, and plenty of food to choose from. All in all I think we enjoyed it.

Me and Toria bimbled homewards and watched much of the first season of Dead Like Me, which was an amazing TV series, from 2004/5, tis a shame they didn’t do a third season, if you’ve not seen it, ask me and I will cross your palm with the DVDs.

I cooked tea, and for once in the past week my cheese sauce went right the first time…I had a fiasco a few nights before. I was making mock carbonara for me and Phil, (my recipe involves bacon, cheese sauce and pasta). It took 4 attempts to get the sauce right. Although at least two attempts were not my fault — technically, the new bottle of milk that I opened for the second attempt was sour and I’d not noticed and I couldn’t for the life of me understand why it was curdling.

We went to the pub after tea. It was like pulling teeth to get my housemates out of The Westleigh (all drinks £1.50 — but only one crappy bitter….Mansfield) and down to the Fighting Cock. Hmm one cheap crappy bitter, versus 10 real ales, 3 real ciders and a selection of foreign lagers and fruit/wheat beers. I think I made my choice 6 months ago.

Toria was drinking Weston’s Old Rosie as usual; I managed to get her to admit that Theakston’s OP is actually nice, and she doesn’t like beer…FTW! I made Laura try Old Rosie, she didn’t seem to mind it, though I’m not sure she’d have it again. She’s a spirit girl — and a whirling dervish as of that weekend!

Infest

On to Infest! Ah yes, Infest is a very special event. Absolutely mental. I’ve never seen so many goths gathered in one place, 3 days of Electro-goth music. I don’t generally like Electronica, but most of the stuff they had on was pretty much bearable, so even quite enjoyable!

The clothing the crowd were wearing was all pretty cool, there was one girl who was only wearing three well placed strips of hazard tape, Wayne didn’t quite understand until later when he spotted her and found out I meant it literally.

I eventually bumped into my brother’s housemate Mackey and his lady friend who I have to admit was fairly pretty. I think it’s the incredibly huge platform shoes that made most of the girls look quite so disproportional, legs that go on forever, if you will. Very odd.

All in all a damn fine weekend. :)

Did you get to see the funky flying people around the inflatable spikey thing?
Squee! Fghting Cock rocks…and OP is brilliant. Tending to sock-like if not poured properly, but fantastic nonetheless…
